‘Big Mountain Weekend’

WHAT IS IT?

The Big Mountain Weekend will be returning to Langdale this year, from the 5th – 6th May to launch the Arc’teryx Lakeland Revival. The event aims to educate, share and improve skills necessary for enjoying the mountains and crags safely. The weekend will be based around a series of clinics headed up by the International School of Mountaineering. There will also be a number of free activities and challenges (and prizes) to take part in.

 

WHAT IS ON?

The the weekend revolves around a series of clinics, these are run by the International School of Mountaineering. There is free demo gear available to test out from Arc’teryx, DMM, Tenaya and aftercare tips from Nikwax. The National Trust will also be running guided walks over the weekend and Raven’s Pit super and stories evening on Friday night.

The Langdale Challenge
With the expertise of local Langdale gurus we have put together a selection of hidden classics and challenges in the Langdale valley. Come along and try just one of the routes or a whole mountain link up. Every person that participates over the weekend will receive a FREE Lakeland Revival special edition DMM Phantom wire gate carabiner. Then why not join us for the BBQ, FREE live music and FREE film evening?

  • Come along and join us at the Sticklebarn for live music from Scrogans Run (Saturday evening)
  • Adventure film evening (Sunday evening)
  • Come and test out the latest kit from Arc’teryx, DMM and Tenaya. Get top aftercare tips from Nikwax on how to look after your kit.
  • Bring along your old & unwanted climbing kit to strength test in the DMM tensile tester.
  • Photo competition.
  • George Fisher ‘name the climb’ competition.
  • Expert advice and latest products from NikWax, Beta Climbing, Arc’teryx, DMM and Tenaya.

SATURDAY EVENING
FREE live music from Scrogans Run are a Lake based duo, Wayne Svurrah and Paddy Rogan. Combining thumping guitar, vocal harmonies and some hot hot banjo picking, they play up tempo and original folk/bluegrass. They will be joined on double bass by friend and collaborator Beak Davison for the evening session.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation is not included in any of the ticket costs. There are various options around the valley including camping, bunkhouse and B&B. The National Trust campsite is offering 10% off for anyone involved in the Big Mountain Weekend (you just need to present your clinic ticket on arrival).
